Are you excited to see the upcoming release of Path of Exile 2 and wondering if you will be able to keep the microtransactions from the Path of Exile that you have spent a fair amount of money on?
Good news for you! It is confirmed by GGG’s official website and GGG’s Official members that Path of Exile’s microtransactions will be transferred to Path of Exile 2. For more details on why or what MTX you can expect to carry over to Path of Exile 2, let’s take a closer look at everything we know so far on this hot-button subject.
Will Path of Exile microtransactions be transferred to Path of Exile 2?
Yes, it is confirmed by GGG’s officials on multiple instances that microtransactions from Path of Exile will be eligible to be transferred to Path of Exile 2.
“Everything you have ever purchased or will ever purchase in the future will be usable in both games unless it’s hyper-specific to the content of one of them,” Rogers said. “You can’t transform into a bear in PoE1, so a reskin of your bear form isn’t going to work. But you absolutely can equip the awesome armor set that you got and use all your stash tabs.”
Grinding Gear Games co-founder Jonathan Rogers explained during ExileCon 2023 day 1 interview.
Along with many instances of GGG’s staff members’s confirmations.
“Any microtransactions purchased will be carried over to Path of Exile 2 to be used there.
If you require any further information regarding Path of Exile 2 I would recommend keeping an eye on our announcements forums found here: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-forum/news”

“In regards to microtransactions within Path of Exile 2, any existing or future microtransaction purchases you have made will be shared between both games where possible! However, there may be exceptions where this is not possible due to the microtransaction being specific to a single version, such as a Skill Gem Effect for a Skill not available in Path of Exile 2 or vice versa.”

Why previous microtransactions will be available in Path of Exile 2?
It is not a stretch to speculate that most of the future player base of POE 2 will be returning players from the prequel. As popular as POE is, it is still considered a niche hardcore game for being relatively hard to get into and having its own cult-like following.
This means that a lot of these returning players will expect their microtransactions, especially stash tabs, to also be transferred into the new game. As also the case for games like CSGO 2 and Overwatch 2 where a gaming company commits to show a focus on longevity and trustworthiness, instead of a chance to re-monetize basically the same goods again.
This expectation is strongly founded on another expectation that POE 2 will most likely be very similar to POE gameplay and content wise.
In fact, POE 2 was not originally even a separate game from POE. Adding to the fact that players who purchased these digital goods having been told by GGG for a long time that their MTX will also be available in POE 2, and you can be sure that GGG would risk angering many of their fans were they not to make it a reality for the new game.
What microtransactions will be transferred to Path of Exile 2?
Let’s get down to the details. What types of microtransactions will be transferred from Path of Exile to Path of Exile 2? First, let’s take a look at all the microtransactions, or digital goods, available in the original POE. According to the Path of Exile Wiki, the digital goods obtainable through microtransactions can be divided into the following categories:
Account features
Additional stash tabs, the ability to customize them, extra character-slots for collectors and alternative mouse cursors.
Alternate skill effects
Re-skins to various skills, such as replacing Skeletons with Statues.
Character effects
Replacements to standard character effects, such as portals.
Item effects
Extra glow or attachments on equipment.
Item skins
Alternate appearance of weapons and armour.
Hideout decorations
Additional decorations for a personalized hideout.
Pets
Non-combat companions to follow the player around.
Animations
Currently contain the /dance animations for each character class.
Custom content
The option for players work with the developers to design their own content.
With that in mind, let’s further examine what GGG’s developers have had to say as to what MTX will be carried over to POE 2.
“Everything you have ever purchased or will ever purchase in the future will be usable in both games unless it’s hyper-specific to the content of one of them,”
Grinding Gear Games co-founder Jonathan Rogers
From every instance of official remarks that we have gathered from the game so far. It would seem safe to conclude that it is within GGG’s intention to transfer all “applicable” microtransactions onto the next game. However, the caveat here has also been repeated several times: “Unless it’s hyper-specific to the [the current’s game content]”
This essentially means that hyper-specific content, e.g. a league-specific stash tab, will have a lower chance of being eligible to transfer to Path of Exile 2 while the more general MTX, e.g. an armor skin, are almost a guarantee.
Although you may find the fact that some of your content-specific MTX from POE may not be able to be transferred to POE 2, there is certainly a valid reason for this. That is simply because it is unlikely that GGG will replicate all of its previous contents in the new game and thus all the content-specific MTX that follows will not make it.
However, this is not a negative thing. Because, It is not in GGG’s interest and, more importantly, Path of Exile’s player base’s interest, to have POE 2 essentially a replication of POE in terms of content. Think about it, you wouldn’t want POE 2 to be the same ol’ game of POE with a fresh coat of paint, right?
“The entire progression of armour and weapons has been redone from start to finish, alongside entirely new character models and animations. All of your old microtransactions are still compatible.”
from the PoE2 page (https://www.pathofexile.com/poe2):
To summarize this matter, the microtransactions that will most likely be carried over to Path of Exile 2 are:
- Account features (Most notably stash tabs)
- Alternate skill effects
- Character effects
- Item effects
- Item skins
- Hideout decorations
- Pets
Along with that, the microtransactions that are most at risk of being excluded for the transfer to Path of Exile 2 are: certain Skill Effects (along with its skill gem skins) and certain League-specific stash tabs.
As for which skill effects or utility stash tabs might be at risk, this depends on what skills or league content will make it to the next game.
Will microtransactions from Path of Exile Console transfer to Path of Exile 2
Will microtransactions from Path of Exile console account (XBOX series, PS4) be transferred to Path of Exile 2?
Yes, the microtransaction transfer is not specific to any version of the game. Hence, console players will also be able to use their MTX in POE once again in Path of Exile 2
Will microtransactions from Path of Exile 2 console transfer to PC version?
Yes, console fans of this beloved title will be happy to hear that with Path of Exile 2 cross-play and cross-progression system, you will no longer be bound by separate platform accounts and along with it, your purchased MTX.
This new feature promises to fix an inconvenient issue for long-time Path of Exile console players: Your microtransactions are not transferrable across platforms (from console to PC or vice versa).
Will microtransactions from Path of Exile console version be available for Path of Exile 2 console and PC version?
Likely, and this is a very interesting prospect. Since Path of Exile 2 is cross-play ready, does it mean that microtransactions transferred from Path of Exile are available for both Consoles and PC versions of Path of Exile 2?
There is no official confirmation on this matter from GGG’ side. Although you have to admit it is a reasonable deduction from what we have learned so far about the MTX transfer. So stay hopeful, Path of Exile console Players who couldn’t transfer their microtransactions on the PC version of the game, you might finally be able to do so atlas in Path of Exile 2.
What’s the catch?
Will content from Path of Exile be brought back to Path of Exile 2 to ensure microtransaction fidelity?
There are some concerns amongst fans that GGG might use the excuse of keeping microtransaction fidelity to bring back possibly outdated or otherwise unfit content from the previous game into Path of Exile 2. This will include old League mechanics and skills. I mean, do you really want to play Heist, Delve and Incursions all over again in the Path of Exile 2?
From the many preview trailers we have had so far, it can be ascertained that many of the old league mechanics will make a return to POE 2 including Incursion and Beast amongst others. Thus this is by no means unfounded speculation. Long-time fans of POE would naturally hope for fresh league mechanics and content in POE 2 and not just playing the same things all over again in a supposedly “new” title.
Will all these microtransactions from Path of Exile persist lag issues to the new Path of Exile 2?
Every Path of Exile player would understand the frustration of massive lag spikes every time you warp into town due to the staggering amount of data loading in to display all the flashy, over-the-top cosmetics that their fellow players have. This issue is made even worse due to the fact that GGG would never allow players to pick their own hideout as the spawning point.
Massive temporary data loads are one of the biggest technical issues with POE from a gameplay perspective and although we cannot know how or if GGG will even tackle this problem, one could only imagine with the old MTXs on top of the new ones from POE 2, Those lag spikes just might be even worse.
Will Goblin Troupe Pet MTX make it into Path of Exile 2?
If you are not aware yet, Golin Troupe Pet is a cosmetic pet in the game that summons a band of Goblins that will occasionally play Jazz music that all players in the surrounding area can hear. It is one of the most infamous and controversial Path of Exile MTX that has sparked countless outrages from players due to how annoying they are every time they spout gibberish Jazz lyrics.
Admittedly, this is just a funny remark, although we would not be surprised if a huge portion of the players being put off by this devilish Jazz band making a comeback in Paht of Exile 2.
Conclusion
Anticipating fans of Path of Exile 2 can rest assured their valuable microtransactions from the original POE will most likely also be available in the new game. With some less likely cases such as hyper-specific content-related MTX such as certain Skill Effects or League Stash Tabs.
This good news is not without some reasons to pause, however, due to the well-experienced issue of lag spikes due to the excessive amount of cosmetics in certain areas of the game in the original POE. Nonetheless, only time can tell when the game is officially released.
